US Airstrikes ‘Heavily Damaged’ Iran’s Fordow Nuclear Facility, Says Foreign Minister

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has confirmed that the Fordow nuclear facility sustained “serious and heavy” damage following recent US airstrikes. Speaking in an interview with CBS News, Araqchi noted that while the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, initial findings point to significant structural and operational harm. “No one knows exactly what has happened inside Fordow, but early reports indicate major damage,” he said.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran is currently carrying out a full evaluation of the site and is expected to submit its report to the government soon. While Iranian internal communications have reportedly attempted to minimize the incident, US intelligence officials suggest the damage may be substantial. President Donald Trump claimed that the US strikes had "completely and totally obliterated" Iran’s nuclear capabilities, although American officials admit it may take time to determine the full impact.

In response to escalating tensions, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has signed into law a bill suspending Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The legislation, passed by Iran’s parliament last week, reflects growing distrust of international oversight following a 12-day conflict involving Israel and the US. The recent US bombing campaign included a strike by B-2 bombers on Fordow during the fighting, with Qatar reportedly mediating a ceasefire agreement between the rival nations.
