Ruling Alliance Gains Two-Thirds Majority After Reserved Seats Allocation

ISLAMABAD: After the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a new notification, the ruling coalition in the National Assembly has gained a two-thirds majority, with its numbers increasing from 218 to 235. This rise comes after the allocation of reserved seats for women and minorities. The PML-N now holds 123 seats, including 86 general, 32 women’s reserved, and five minority seats. The PPP’s total has reached 74, with 55 general, 16 women’s, and three minority seats.

Other ruling alliance members also saw changes. MQM-P has 22 seats — 17 general, four women’s, and one minority. PML-Q holds five seats, while the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party has four. PML-Z, BAP, and National Party each hold one seat, and four independents support the government. These additions have solidified the treasury benches’ control in the Assembly.

On the opposition side, numbers rose slightly from 96 to 98. The Sunni Ittehad Council, backed by PTI, still holds 80 general seats. JUI-F now has 10 seats, with an increase in women and minority representation. Other opposition parties include BNP, Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen, and PkMAP with one seat each. A total of 19 reserved seats were restored, although a few were not reinstated due to legal and procedural issues.
